| Since their formation nearly a decade ago, That Handsome Devil have delivered one of the most unique sounds on the planet and have built a reputation for being consistently unpredictable. THD brings together an eclectic mix of genres, including hip-hop, swing jazz, surfer rock, blues, and hard rock, to name only a few. And the result is incredible. With their most recent release, titled The Heart Goes to Heaven, The Head Goes to Hell, THD has created their most creative and satisfying album to date. Each one of it's 13 tracks bears a personality all it's own, yet finds itself fitting in quite nicely in the context of the album as a whole. And when you add in the more-often-than-not deceptively dark lyrics of singer Godforbid, you get a fantastic ever-evolving emotional landscape that (in a nutshell) takes the listener from a sense of reckless apathy ("Adapt", "Becky's New Car"), to a cheerful cynicism ("Charlie's Inferno", "Karmakazee"), and finally feelings of cautious optimism ("Inside You", "Party's Dead"), with both comedic and tragic elements throughout. I highly recommend this album to anyone who likes experimental music, or simply wants to hear something different from the norm.
